That makes a car-free Dales holiday genuinely possible here. When to go
This is the wet side of the Pennines and it shows, so pack for rain whenever you come; the fells and the limestone are at their most walkable in the drier months, and by nine in the evening Settle has two or three busy pubs and a lot of dark streets. The Settle-Carlisle line runs year round, and the museum in the Folly opens most afternoons April to October, with fewer days in winter. Tuesday is market day in the square.
