Huddersfield is a West Yorkshire town built on textiles, with Victorian architecture, a grand railway station and a mix of high street shops, markets and cultural venues such as the Lawrence Batley Theatre and the Huddersfield Art Gallery. The university adds a youthful energy, while the surrounding villages and countryside open up walking and cycling. It sits on the TransPennine rail route, which makes it a practical base for both Yorkshire and nearby Manchester.

When to go

The climate is typical of northern England, with mild summers and cool, wet winters, and rainfall spread throughout the year, so visitors should be prepared for showers. The summer months from June to August offer the warmest weather and longer days, ideal for exploring the surrounding countryside. Spring and autumn can be pleasant, with fewer crowds. Winter can be cold, with occasional snow on higher ground.
