3-star hotels in Filey
This shortlist gathers 3-star hotels and guest houses in Filey, the small Victorian seaside town on the Yorkshire coast. It suits couples, families and walkers who want a base in or beside the old town.
Staying in Filey
Filey is a small Victorian seaside town on the Yorkshire coast, built around one long terrace, The Crescent, which sits on a clifftop lawn above five miles of firm, flat sand. The fishing village end is tucked down Church Ravine at Coble Landing. The scale is small: you can cross the whole town on foot in twelve minutes. In July the promenade below The Crescent still has families walking off fish and chips at 9pm; by 10pm it is birdsong and the sea. Filey is genuinely world-class for walking: the Cleveland Way finishes at Filey Brigg after 109 miles from Helmsley, and the Yorkshire Wolds Way finishes here too.
The hotels on this shortlist sit in and around the town and just outside it. The White Lodge Hotel is on The Crescent itself, above the beach; The Royal Oak, Wrangham House Hotel and several guest houses are on or near Filey's streets in the old town; The Darling Suites is at Gristhorpe, west of town; The Piebald Inn is at Hunmanby to the south-west; The Farrier is at Cayton near Scarborough. Together they suit couples on a short break, families wanting family rooms and self-catering, and walkers who want a big breakfast before a day on the Brigg.

Getting there and around
Filey is a small town on the Yorkshire coast, and the whole of it can be crossed on foot in twelve minutes. The Cleveland Way finishes at Filey Brigg after 109 miles from Helmsley, and the Yorkshire Wolds Way finishes here too. From Coble Landing, take the path up Carr Naze and drop to the rocks. Filey Dams is on the western edge of town off Muston Road, ten minutes' walk from Murray Street.
When to go
April and September bring long-distance walkers finishing the Cleveland Way and the Yorkshire Wolds Way into Filey. In July the promenade below The Crescent is still full of families at 9pm. The Filey Museum on Queen Street opens roughly from Easter to October, afternoons only. For the Brigg, time a visit two hours either side of low water. Sea temperature peaks around 16°C in August, so most swimmers wear a wetsuit.
