3-star hotels in Easingwold

Staying in Easingwold

Easingwold is a compact grid of Georgian brick around a cobbled Market Place, with Long Street, Uppleby and Spring Street radiating off it. Nothing has been prettified for visitors, which is the appeal: butcher, baker, ironmonger, two decent delis and a coaching inn that has been putting travellers up for centuries. Come for Georgian streets, a real weekly market, good walking on the Howardian fringe and a base for Sutton Bank, Byland and Shandy Hall. Evenings are civilised and early, and there is nothing resembling a nightclub within fifteen miles.

The properties we list here sit in and immediately around the town. The Residence @ Jaipur is on York Road, Tudor House on Uppleby, and both the Self Contained Holiday Accommodation and The Larch Room are a short step from the centre. The Georgian House stands on Galtres Drive, while Roseberry View, the two Crayke cottages, the Crayke house and the Tollerton house serve the surrounding villages. It suits couples on a short break, families wanting a kitchen and a garden, and walkers or golfers who need parking and an early start.

Plan your stay

Getting there and around

Easingwold sits thirteen miles north of York on the old Great North Road, just off the A19. If you are without a car, the bus to York and Helmsley is useful but hourly at best and finished by evening, and York's bars are half an hour away by car with a taxi needed for the return. Parking is straightforward: every hotel on this list offers free car parking, so a car makes the surrounding villages, Sutton Bank and Byland far easier to reach.

When to go

The town's weekly market on the cobbled Market Place is a morning affair, with stalls packing up by mid-afternoon, so plan a market day around an early start. Shandy Hall at Coxwold opens its interior only a couple of afternoons a week from roughly May to September, with gardens open more often, so check before driving over. Easingwold Golf Club drains well in winter on its sandy soil, making it a good rain contingency when Sutton Bank is in cloud.
