Staying in Mundesley

Mundesley is a coastal village in north-east Norfolk, and its beach and cliff-top path are the main draws. The surrounding coastline is largely undeveloped, and the village has a compact centre with shops and places to eat. It suits visitors looking for a relaxed seaside stay rather than a busy nightlife scene, and it works as a base for the Norfolk Broads inland and the larger resort towns along the coast.

The hotels on this list sit well outside the village centre, with distances to the centre ranging from 13.0 to 22.4 km, so a car is useful here. The Old Bank, Gone Coastal, The Old Barn and Beaconsfield House are all at around 15 km, while Swafield Hall and The Tack Room are the closest at 13.7 km and 13.0 km. Their facilities point to different trips: some are apartment-style stays with kitchens and gardens, others have a bar, restaurant and meeting room. It suits couples and families on a short break who plan to drive.

Getting there and around

Mundesley has no railway station. The nearest stations are at North Walsham and Cromer, both a short drive or bus ride away, with services from Norwich and along the coast. By road, Mundesley is reached from the A149 coast road or from Norwich via the B1150 and A149. Regular buses connect the village with Cromer, North Walsham and Norwich. Once in Mundesley, the village centre, beach and cliff path are easily covered on foot; a car or bus is useful for reaching other parts of the Norfolk coast.

When to go

The summer months, from June to August, are the most popular for beach weather and for the village's holiday season. Spring and early autumn are quieter and often mild, and are good for walking the coastal path. Winter is cold and many seafront businesses reduce their hours, but the beach and cliff walks remain open year-round. Sea temperatures are cool even in high summer.
